Hers - Saluting the Soldiers

My Memorial Day salute to the soldiers included a red, ivory, and blue dots and stripes ensemble ~ my own patriotic twist on the classic stars and stripes forever.  I enjoyed embracing the spirit of the holiday and my love for nautical inspired pieces.  Plus, with Memorial Day also being the {unofficial} start to summer, I thought what better time to sport some maritime pride.  Here's to the summer, the soldiers, and the red, white, & blue!!

His & Hers Picks - Adornments

We love a great accessory.  A single adornment to add a bit of interest and personal style to any ensemble.  Lately we've been drawn to signature leather bracelets for {Him} and dainty little pieces for {Her}.  Simple statements that are strapping and sweet, and strike the perfect note of style.  Here's two adornments we're currently admiring...

Miansai Silver Metal & Leather Bracelet, $75 @ Mr. Porter

{ Hers }
Dogeared XO Necklace, $137.42 @ Asos

His - Holiday Weekend

It was so wonderful to have an extra day of relaxation this weekend.  We took full advantage by dedicating one of our three days to nothing but that ~ complete and utter relaxation.  A lazy day with no agenda or time schedules to stick to.  It was magnificent and an incredibly rare treat.  Now we're feeling revived and ready to take on this busy week.  We hope you're feeling the same this Tuesday morning.

Hers - Based in Black

My new daytime dress code is black.  From tops to bottoms to shoes, it's an all black code.  Luckily I've always been a fan of sporting black, so I've found it a fun style challenge to create as many unique looks as I can from the monochromatic palette.  I've found myself mixing more blacks into my off-hour looks too.  Lately it's my favorite neutral color base for most looks.  It seems while the {His} is drawn to navy-based ensembles these days, I'm based in black ~ a couple of black and blue babies.

His & Hers Picks - Multipurpose Totes

We think a great, versatile tote is a must this time of year.  The type of tote that can take you from the office to a picnic in the park, or even the beach, can help maximize your hours of extended daylight and warmth.  And who doesn't want that??  For us, the more time we can spend outside in the summer sun the better.  It just never seems to last long enough.  Here's a couple multipurpose totes we're currently craving...

His - No Dress Code

On lazy weekends the {His} loves to go ultra casual.  With no dress code to get dressed up for, he'll rock a rotation of comfortable T's, shorts, and shoes.  Such was the case with the {His'} look below.  This past weekend was a combination productivity and making time for some relaxation, so the {His} remained casual and cool {in the midsummer-like heat} in his favorite shorts and T's.  Everyone needs no-dress-code-days every now and again.

His & Hers Inspiration - Audrey Tautou

I adore Audrey Tautou.  I think she's just mesmerizing.  A classic beauty with such lovely, ladylike grace.  I recently stumbled upon her feature in Marie Claire Russia and just had to share {images below}.  I love how they captured Tautou's Chanel-like style and class, showcasing her in such elegant and timeless looks.  Exquisite, don't you think?!

{Five} of Our Favorite Things

This past week has been all about school, studying, and settling into a new routine with my new schedule.  It's a bit strange to be back in school again {studying, taking tests, and doing homework} but incredibly exciting and rewarding at the same time.  I have so much to learn and can't wait to learn it, then practice, practice, practice until I get it down pat!!  All in good time I suppose.  We hope you've had a wonderful week!!  Here's to a fantastic weekend and just {five} of our favorite things from this past week...

{ lovely evening strolls through Lincoln Park }

{ learning and practicing all kinds of styling techniques on my new BFF, Erika }

{ dinner under the leafy ceiling of Orso's back patio }

{ a handful of our latest favorite Aveda products: (clockwise from top)
Control Paste, Air Control Hair Spray, Light Elements Smoothing Fluid, Volumizing Tonic, Nourish-mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Raspberry Tea, Aveda Men Pure-Formance Grooming Cream }

Hers - Kelly Green Girl

I was feeling rather preppy as I dressed the other day ~ instantly drawn to anything slightly nautical and colors like navy blue and kelly green.  That's how this look came to be.  It was also the perfect ensemble to pair with {these} new nude wedges.  I was anxious to give them a little trot and, after a long day out and about, was impressed by how incredibly comfortable they are.  You may be seeing a lot of these puppies.

His - Subtle Details

I love the light, buttery color of the shirt the {His} is sporting below, but it's also the hardest shirt to shoot.  Layered on it's buttery base are subtly patterned pops of color {like teal, magenta, and chartreuse}, which are rather difficult to see unless you're up-close.  I think it's what makes the shirt so interesting though.  From afar, it appears rather simple.  But upon closer inspection, you notice this shirt actually has a bit more spunk.  Gotta love those little details.

His & Hers Picks - Summer Stripes

Nothing says summer quit like stripes.  Their classic, nautical nature never goes out of style and consistently becomes a popular pattern as the warm weather months draw near.  Striped sweaters, T's, dresses, and skirts tend to be our favorite forms to sport.  Here's just {two} of our last picks of splendid summery stripes...

His & Hers Inspiration - Vidal Sassoon

We were terribly sad to hear about the passing of Vidal Sassoon, at the age of 84, last Wednesday.  You may remember we recently posted {hereabout Sasson's immense impact and never-ending inspiration to the hair and style industry, all which is captured in a wonderful documentary ~ Vidal Sassoon: The Movie.  Sassoon was truly the grandmaster of hair, single-handedly changing the industry with his revolutionary five point cuts in the late 1950's and early 1960's.  On Wednesday the NY Times posted a lovely article on his life and career, which you can read {here}.  Vidal Sassoon will undoubtably be missed, but his legend and influence will live and inspire forever.
